The Child and Her Child, a tapestry crochet of over 5,200 stitches, was created to address the pressing issue of child marriage in Northern Nigeria. Almajira is a Hausa term for a pupil or student, derived from the Arabic word Al-Muhajirun, meaning an emigrant or someone who leaves home in search of knowledge. However, due to poverty, these young girls have been forced into under age marriage and often suffer chronic health challenges growing up like Vesicovaginal Fistula. This calls for immediate action to put an end to child marriage in Northern Nigeria
