Quintessential Painter and Crochet Artist
Adewole Oluwadamilola is a contemporary Nigerian painter and crochet artist whose practice recontextualizes the intersection of textile art and figurative painting. A graduate of Fine Art from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, her work is deeply rooted in the exploration of internal transformation and the pursuit of wholeness. Inspired by pointillism, Adewole developed a signature "pixelated" style, utilizing multi-strand acrylic yarns to create intricate tapestry crochet portraits that challenge the boundaries of traditional media. Her current body of work explores floral surrealism, housing poetic portraits of African women within bold, metaphorical floral forms. By crocheting with multiple threads simultaneously, she creates a physical manifestation of resilience and the coexistence of contrasting identities and emotional states. A recipient of the "Best in Textile Category" (Zaria Region) at the 2025 Life In My City Art Festival (LIMCAF), Adewole has exhibited at venues such as Kachi Art Gallery, Enugu and Popcentral, Lagos. Her work serves as both a social commentary on identity and a sanctuary for those seeking solace amidst mental and personal struggles.
A tapestry crochet series of intricate averagely 18,000 single crochet stitches per surrealist piece, weaving together human forms and flowers to explore the African woman's silent struggle for peace, identity, and wholeness. Rooted in Psalms 103:14-17, each piece invites those battling inner turmoil to find belonging and calm like the fragile, luminous resilience of a flower.
